  • I love how people in the mundane monster video of tfl were like "that was just a dirt road" "I could do that in rwd" "Do something harder the approach and departure angles arent good" yet this video the touareg handled rock crawling, proved to have better angles than the Ram and did a surprising job. Of course there are better vehicles, but for what it looks like, the touareg did undeniably good. Also loving the positively surprised comments this video! And those who had faith in the touareg already! Cool car.

  • How do you identify a Touareg that has rear diff lock? Is there a button in cabin, code in the vin-code, different looking rear axle or what?

    Jussi-Tapio RoininenJussi-Tapio Roininen3 ай мурун
    • In the t1 touareg have a dial that activates 4wd, all touareg's have a center diff lock but optional rear lock and the only way to identify it is if the dial has an extra setting in the dial, I believe 3 settings without diff lock and 4 settings with diff lock.

Other had 6cyl 3speed manual, They weren't refined like the vee dub is but they were friggin rough and tough but not in a beat your kidneys out like my 72 j-20 that I actually avoided driving long distances. I love the Vee Dubs so much I've been shopping for a good deal on one to buy then sell my S-10 blazer with every possible off road performance option (that doesn't come close to VW) I want a TDI but they're priced out of my price range for a toy but have found a V-8 4Xmotion That's very good condition for an 04. It's got right at 100,000 miles but according to car fox it's been maintained right on time for $4,000

  • After witnessing the misery of mandated start/stop systems, grams of CO2 per 100 km, euro 6 norms clogging up particulate filters ... I am seriously thinking of buying an older Touareg and just spending the money on repairing it until they make it illegal. Because they will. Even if I would use less fuel per month than someone commuting from far away in a Prius. All I need the car for is weekend hikes.

  • I have to say that my father owned a 2008 Touareg and it was a briliant car, and a very popular one too. In Israel the Touareg outsold the Mercedes ML, Land Rover Discovery and more, even though it was more expensive than the others, costing more than 500,000 ILS (which is 140,000$, due to the massive taxes in Israel)...

  • What other vehicle can you put a tire that is 2.6" larger in diameter and really have to do no modification to, whatsoever? Oddly enough, the old Ford Ranger. The ones that were produced from the 90s to 2012 or so, would do that. You could fit a 32" tire on them and only have to do minor trimming to some plastic pieces with a pair of tin snips. Not sure if Ford did that intentionally or not but you could fit big tires on the Ranger. Also, the Ford Explorer, basically being a Ranger Wagon, would also do this little trick until the Explorer got its new platform in 2002. The only thing that sucked was that the Rangers didn't get the larger 8.8" rear axle (unless you got the FX4 version) where the Explorer did. So if you want a locker, you either need to find one for the smaller Ranger axle, or swap in an Explorer axle. But, being platform mates, the Explorer axle is almost a bolt-in affair on the Ranger. You will need a welder or throw a few bucks at someone who has one, because the spring perches need to be flipped to the top side. It's a really simple job and it takes longer to get the axle out of the truck, than it does to actually do the welds.

It's apparently like a German Tiger 2 tank: Amazing when it works but things break like crazy and are very expensive fixes. Apparently the Air Suspention is prone to break (and very expensive) and the V10 it has was agian, great when it worked but a nightmare when it broke.
